Make This: Merry & Bright Holiday Wall Art DIY

This week, I'm in West Virginia at the most astonishing cabin in the woods. It'due south been really chilly here and we've been sipping enough of apple cider and hot cocoa, which is getting me into the holiday spirit a petty earlier than expected.

And so today, I'm sharing my first wintertime holiday project of the twelvemonth. I hope you don't heed that it's a lilliputian early. I have been waiting patiently for months to share this holiday DIY I created in partnership with Scotch® Color & Pattern Duct Tape.

I beloved the holidays as much every bit anyone else. Perhaps fifty-fifty a trivial more most. I practice sing Christmas carols  pretty much all year long, after all. That said, I created this behemothic (but still kind of understated) decorative wall art piece for the holidays to add together a trivial something to that bare wall behind our couch. The thought is that these pieces can exist used every bit habitation decor, throughout the holidays – while you're writing your Christmas list on the couch, curled up with hot chocolate or throwing a holiday political party and using the pieces as props for a photo berth. I selected not-traditional Christmas colors to blend in more than with the decor yous might have in your home already. Then, information technology's festive but not 'in your face'.

Here'southward how to brand your own…

Materials Needed:

• five foam core boards in any colour *They'll be completely covered when the project is finished.
• acrylic paint
• pigment castor
• Xacto knife
• Scotch® Colour & Blueprint Duct Tape*I used Pearl White, Blue Turquoise, and Flaky (the snowflake pattern).
• Control strips or something similar for hanging the finished piece

How-To:

i. Commencement past taping ii of the foam core boards together, to create one long (horizontal) slice. Use record on both the front and the back to keep information technology secure. Repeat this procedure with ii more foam cadre boards and the exit the last of the five boards by itself.

2. On i of the larger, taped together boards, paint the give-and-take 'merry' in cursive (you want to make certain the letters are connected to each other). Make certain to fill in the width of the letters to a decent size – you'll be cutting this out, and so you don't want it to exist also thin. Then, repeat this process with the discussion 'vivid' on the remaining large taped together board. And use the solo board to pigment the word 'and'.

*Don't be agape to ask for help. If you lot don't like your own handwriting, ask a friend if they wouldn't mine doing this stride for you. I had my designer bud Jordan paint the words for me after I taped the foam core sections together considering I love her cursive lettering so much. Mode better than mine, that's for sure.

3. Once the paint is completely dry out, it's time to cut it out. I used a very precipitous Xacto knife and it was really easy. Just make sure yous have a very precipitous cutting knife or box cutter so you don't have to overexert yourself (plus information technology volition cutting more smoothly).

iv. Once the three words have been cut out, information technology is time to start wrapping them. To conserve record, I cut small pieces off of the ringlet, even so length, and wrapped each piece around from the front to the back (leaving some of the back uncovered, since you won't see it anyway). Cover each word completely with this process.

5. Now, all yous have to do is attach something to the back of each word (like Control strips), and y'all are ready to hang!

I spent a lot of fourth dimension figuring out exactly where I wanted the finished slice to go, how I wanted each give-and-take titled, etc. Merely once you get the placement down, it's goes by really fast.

AND you lot tin can reuse this piece yr after year. Even though I made this months ago, I've kept the finished slice so I can hang it upward in our new place.It holds up well if stored flat.

Yous can also use them equally photo booth props in a compression. And if you're already decorating, y'all might equally well add some garland and a little hot cocoa (or java) to gloat. Then, sit down back and admire your work. You e'er take time for that, right? Ha!
